Want artwork in InDesign that you can easily color and scale WITHOUT having to import or place it from another program like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop?

Well, in this video I show you how to create vector artwork right in your InDesign layouts that you can resize, color, copy and paste into other pages and files.

To create vector art within InDesign:

Use the shape tool (the icon WITHOUT the X in the box–that’s the frame tool)
Click and drag a shape (rectangle, ellipse, polygon). Hint: hold the SHIFT key down if you want a square or perfect circle.
Color the object using the FILL and STROKE at the bottom of your toolbar. Hint: toggle between these two with the X key.
That’s it! You can adjust the color and dimensions of your object. In fact: because it’s vector art, you can scale it up without any pixelation!
(To increase its size, go to the bottom right corner of your object and, holding the SHIFT key, pull it out. To decrease, do the same, but push in.)
You can also create other shapes on top of this basic shape and GROUP these with COMMAND + G.
