To scale an object from its center (or “belly button” of the object as I like to call it!):

1. Grab the object by its lower right corner and drag it with the SHIFT key held (to keep it proportionate!)

To scale an object NOT from its center:

1. Click down to reset the point from its default center to anywhere else on the object or artboard.
2. Grab the object by its lower right and drag it with the SHIFT key held (to keep it proportionate!) You’ll see the scale occurs either to or from your new point.

To scale an object disproportionately:

1. Double click the scale tool and enter the horizontal and vertical values in the scale dialog box.

To scale the stroke or effects on an object:

1. Make sure “scale strokes and effects” is checked in the scale dialog box.
